Araki Shokai Ltd. has been operating a recycling business for over 20 years with the aim of realizing a waste-free society. We planned this recycling shop to serve as a place where consumers can experience the process of items being “filtered”\u2014a journey of re-examining discarded goods and rediscovering their value. The first floor displays items in their original, untouched state, creating an atmosphere akin to a warehouse or flea market where visitors can enjoy a treasure-hunting experience. Ascending to the second floor reveals a space filled with thoroughly cleaned items; the design allows visitors to engage with the goods from various perspectives as they move through the warehouse-like setting. In a society overflowing with material goods, the value of vintage and second-hand items is being re-evaluated; against this backdrop, we conceived this project to explore what a new kind of recycling shop could be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
